In May 2020, shortly after relocating from Louisiana to Texas, I experienced an unexpected career shift when I was laid off from my full-time position. While navigating a new city and a season of transition, I began exploring ways to turn a long-time passion into something meaningful and sustainable. Photography had always been close to my heart, and with encouragement from my fiancé, I decided to pursue it as a professional path.

In the early days, I visited local parks and introduced myself to strangers, offering complimentary sessions as I worked to build my portfolio. Although growth did not happen overnight, each small step strengthened my determination and refined my craft. Then, in October, I was given my first paid opportunity to photograph a session. That moment was both humbling and transformative. On October 3, 2020, J. Songy Photography was officially established.

Since then, this journey has shaped me not only as a photographer, but also as a business owner and as a person. I have dedicated myself to developing a vibrant, candid style that authentically captures emotion and connection. Along the way, I have celebrated meaningful milestones, learned from challenges, and built lasting relationships with incredible clients who have trusted me with their most treasured moments.
